Smith and Westcott
This site is an effort to put together all the information that I have gathered over the years on the Smith family who came to Halifax, Nova Scotia from Montrose, Scotland in the 1800’s.
In searching the internet I have found a Scottish Genealogy site (familysearch.org) that lists a couple of generations of Smiths in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. I will be trying to verify this over the next while. I do know a George Smith (Signature on marriage certificate) stood with W.D.F Smith when he married J. Theresa Hume in Halifax.
Included is some work done on the Barkhouse family by Ron Barkhouse in 1991. Originating from Germany and settling in Chester Nova Scotia. The connection to the Smith family is through Maude Barkhouse, who married W.D.F. Smith in 1900.
This is an answer to a letter to the youngest of the family who never knew her father or the older brothers and sisters. He also talks of the people and happenings around Canning, Nova Scotia in the early 1930’s. This paper was put together by his son Peter.
The main tree is set up from the first Westcott in Nova Scotia. I have had given me what would appear be a complete history of my mother’s family (Westcott). The links at the top of the Westcott Family Tree page give a history of the Westcott’s in England and arrival in the United States.
I would be interested in any information on these families.
